2026 POFPS Awards

The POFPS is now accepting nominations for there 2026 POFPS Awards. This a great way to honor your fellow osteopathic family physicians. The four awards with criteria and nomination form is below.

Deadline for nominations is Sunday, April 30, 2026.  The awards committee will review all nominations and may contact yourself or the nominee for more information.  The awards will be presented during the POFPS Business Meeting as a part of the 51th POFPS CME Symposium in 2026.

POFPS FAMILY PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR
2025 Winner: Kathleen Sweeney, DO, FACOFP

Presented in recognition of outstanding service to the profession.
Specific attributes including but not limited to:

​

  • Demonstrates selfless acts of service to the profession

  • Demonstrates the characteristics of the ideal family physician including but not limited to empathy, patient-centered care and respect for the profession

  • Advocates for the profession and their patients on local, state and or national level

  • Practices Family Medicine using the principals of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

  • Promotes and preserves the integrity of the osteopathic profession

  • Fosters and mentors the next generation of osteopathic physicians

  • Serves as model of professionalism in their community and profession

  • Must be three years post-residency

 

RAYMOND J. SALOOM, DO, FACGP Memorial Award
2025 Winner: Carol Henwood DO, FACOFP dist.
Presented in recognition of untiring efforts to promote the art of family practice and to preserve the integrity of the osteopathic profession.

​

  • Serves the Pennsylvania osteopathic profession at the state and/or local level

  • A model of professional and caring osteopathic Family Physician

  • Practices Family Medicine utilizing the principals of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

  • Must be three years post-residency

 

FREDERICK J. SOLOMON, DO, FACGP Award of Merit
2025 Winner: N/A

Presented in recognition of service both professional and educational

​

  • Serves the Pennsylvania osteopathic profession at the state and/or local level

  • Advances the training of osteopathic students and/or residents

  • A model of professional and caring osteopathic Family Physician

  • Must be three years post-residency

 

COMMUNITY PHYSICIAN AWARD
2025 Winner: Kirsten Johnsen Martin, DO 

Presented in recognition of service to their patients and community

​

  • Culturally competent physician focused on patient-centered care

  • A model of professional and caring osteopathic Family Physician

  • An advocate for the needs of their patients

  • A physician who’s devotion to their community reaches beyond their offices

  • Must be three years post-residency

 

OUSTANDING FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENT OF YEAR AWARD
2025 Winner: N/A

Presented in recognition of service to their patients and community

​

  • Commitment to osteopathic philosophy and patient-centered care

  • Leadership within their residency program or professional community. 

  • Is an exemplary role model for the profession and their program. 

  • Be an osteopathic family physician in training who has completed at least one year of residency or fellowship in Pennsylvania, Maryland or Delaware. 

  • Travel Stipend: $200 award

  • Additional Requirements:

    • Be nominated by a peer or program director (no self-nominations)

    • Letters of support from Program Directors and an additional medical colleague.
